The Affordable Care Act (ACA), commonly referred to as Obamacare, was an attempt to protect consumers from insurance company tactics known to increase the cost of care, where only the insurance companies benefited and profited. Unfortunately, there were so many unintended consequences with that complex piece of legislation, the cost of health insurance has not become more affordable at all, and the consumers were not protected. In fact, here in 2018 the average monthly premium for an Idaho family increased by 38%, following an already unacceptable increase of 24% in 2017. In short, taxes have increased, insurance premiums have increased, deductibles have increased, all during the “Affordable Care Act” implementation - it's insanity.
A great place to bring immediate financial relief to Idahoans is by removing costly federal mandates demanded by the “Affordable Care Act.” The ACA is an “unfunded mandate,” and one that is placing a large burden on the states without providing 100% of the funding necessary to execute the demand, that is simply unacceptable. Marv believes it is time to remove unfunded mandates and offer personal choices to create the most affordable health insurance rates for Idahoans.
To restore choice in healthcare solutions back to the people of Idaho, Marv supports Governor Otters’ Executive Order 2018-02, which will do exactly that. In short, each Idahoan should be allowed to self-select their health insurance coverage, or that for their family.
Marv has fought, and will continue to fight as Lt. Governor, all federal intrusion into the personal sphere of healthcare services - while he works to lower current costs with Idaho specific solutions.
